Rutgers University–Camden is the smallest of Rutgers' three New Jersey campuses, occupying a compact urban footprint in Camden's Cooper Grant neighborhood directly across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. Founded in 1926 as the South Jersey Law School and the College of South Jersey, it joined the Rutgers system in 1950 and today enrolls roughly 5,800 undergraduate and graduate students across 38 undergraduate majors. The campus is heavily commuter-oriented: most undergraduates live off campus or commute, with the PATCO Speedline's City Hall station two blocks from the center of campus and the RiverLink Ferry connecting to Philadelphia. First-year students are typically housed in Camden Tower, a ten-story building of three-bedroom suites. Rutgers–Camden fields 17 NCAA Division III varsity teams, the Scarlet Raptors, competing mainly in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, and its men's soccer team reached the 2013 NCAA Division III national championship game. The Rutgers School of Business–Camden is AACSB-accredited, and the Camden campus also houses a Rutgers Law School division and the Paul Robeson Library, a federal depository serving the First Congressional District. Rutgers–Camden is classified as an R2 research institution and reported about $9.5 million in R&D expenditures in fiscal year 2023.
